November – Sports Feature
The Orlando Science soccer team is entering the season with high energy and a focus on growth, resilience and unity. Through interviews with Coach Cambino, Brady, Chad, and Tyler, it became clear that the team values positivity, learning from mistakes and building trust both on and off the field. Each person brought a different perspective, but together they painted a picture of a team that refuses to let setbacks define them.
After tough loses, team’s main approach is to stay positive and focus on what went well. Brady explained that he always emphasizes the good moments from a game so the players can bring that confidence into the next match. Chad added that losses are simply “steps toward a bigger victory,” reminding his teammates to stay motivated for the championship at the end of the season. Tyler shared that his job is to keep everyone’s heads up and focus on the good rather than the bad. Coach agreed, saying that with such a long season, the important thing is how the team bounces back after a bad performance. Across all four interviews, the message was clear: confidence and positivity keep the team moving forward.
The players also shared their goals for the season. Brady hopes the team performs well in conference play and continues to improve against tougher competition while still having fun and keeping the sport enjoyable. Chad explained that the team is hosting its own tournament this year, aiming for a big turnout and hoping to win every game to prove they’re becoming a team other schools should watch out for. Since the program is still new, they are putting in work through fundraising and preparation to grow the team’s potential. Coach mentioned the importance of rebuilding chemistry, focusing on creating a new and effective offense. Tyler’s goal was simple: “win the championship and not lose a game.”
Leadership has also shaped the way players view teamwork and responsibility. Chad shared that being captain taught him that leadership isn’t about anger. It’s about empathy and understanding that teammates might just be having a bad day. Tyler added that his role requires him to be a role model and set the standard for improvement Coach talks about much the team grown and the team is in a good place overall. Together, the team shows that responsibility, patience, and unity make them stronger, both as athletes and as people.
